What is chimney repointing?+
Repointing removes failed mortar from masonry joints to an appropriate depth and replaces it with compatible mortar. It does not automatically correct loose brick, structural movement or a failed crown.
Can damaged bricks be replaced during repointing?+
Yes, when individual brick replacement is included in the written scope. More extensive movement or deterioration may require partial rebuilding instead of joint work alone.
Will repointing stop every chimney leak?+
No. Flashing, counterflashing, the crown, cap and nearby roofing can also admit water. Those connected details should be reviewed before the repair is finalized.
