Are the chimney cap and crown the same thing?+
No. The cap covers the flue opening, while the crown is the sloped top surface that sheds water away from the chimney body. A chimney can need work on one or both.
Can a cracked crown cause water damage?+
Cracks and failed top surfaces can allow water into the chimney assembly. The condition, extent and surrounding components should be reviewed before choosing a repair.
Can you install a cap on an existing liner?+
That depends on the flue or liner termination, measurements and condition. The cap should be selected around the actual top configuration.
